The flower called Ekikaawa.

In Lukaawa, the flower’s brightness is a symbol of vitality and community spirit, reflecting the warmth and welcoming nature of the village.

  BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT LUKAAWA

Many years ago, it is said that there lived a Muhima family (Ankole origin) who lived at the top of area mountain then. She could wake up very early in the morning and sweep her compound which later became a signal to the locals who could wake up every dawn and signal to others to wake up as it is already late with a slogan "wake up already the Muhima is sweeping" which means Muhima Ayela in Luganda the local language. That became the first name of the village but unfortunately it is said that the Muhima family just vanished which broke left the locals wondering till today.

The name Lukaawa is born:

For some good years the village remained nameless until one of the village youth named Lusagala then decided to marry and as a monied handsome, strong and intelligent man he decided to organize a big party which united all the neighboring villages. On the wedding day as the bride was walked down the aisle, the locals and guests who escorted her were given a beautiful green slim bunch of sticks each with a yellow nice looking flower which was used to design the brides then but very sour {Kikaawa} and they splashed all them on the streets as a sign of happiness while the bride was welcomed.

The splashed flowers sprouted and bloomed into a nice looking plant which painted the village yellow after some weeks. the more it looked nice, the more sour it was to the extent that even if you just passed by and nudged on it by accident, you could realize after some hours in case you leak that nudged part. So it stood by the label of sourness which is translated as "
oluti olukaawa" in local language hence the saying by neighboring villages while directing you LUKAAWA #ogenda eli ewali oluti olukaawa?.
